Seeking Greener Pastures (6): Exam and Grading system
Abeg, y be say for Naija higher institution, dem just decide to make life difficult for us. Na UNILAG
I attend that year, for my mind dat time, I believe say I dey super fresh school. I believe say d grading system and exam levels na same for all d Naija higher institution. I go show una y Naija higher institution just dey frustrate us dat year.
For here, winter semester dey resume October and end for March. Exams dey start from February.
Now exam don near finish. My first obodo Oyibo exam. I don dey read like say my life depend on
am. On a low key, some people for d class dey believe say black man no sabi book. Me wen even resume end of December. Finally, d "D" day reach, exam don land. JJC like me, I carry complete writing materials, u go think say I dey go write common entrance exam (primary school exams to get into secondary school in Naija), as I no sabi wetin dem go ask nau. So make una no too laugh me.
As I enter exam hall, all man don collect sit. No way to set all those Unilag exam formation for copying, the space between us reach to build small self contain. Before exam start, na so dem announce say "if u no go like do d exam, make u fall out". For my mind, I say see levels to make people carry over course, wicked world. Oboy, na so some Oyibo people commot class, say dem no wan write. I reason am, I say I no fit use myself compare this people, me wen borrow money come d abroad for school. Exam start, 2 hours 30 mins exam.
We finish, all man begin gist. I come see my fellow black man wen do d exam. E tell me say e just submit blank paper. Shuuuuuuu, I ask am, y nau? e say e go rewrite d exam. And dis na bros wen don dey d school before me. Him name na Francis. I ask Francis again. But, even if u pass am well well next time (A), after them divide am e go reduce d A to like C nau, so y u no kuku ruff am now, claim ya C move on. Francis laugh scatter, e call me mugu (fool). Na dere Francis clear me how d grading matters be for Germany. E say if e get "A" d next time e write am, na "A". For German system, dem no dey divide ur grade with d one wen u fail before. For people wen no understand, for Naija, if u do course and fail am ( grade F (0)) come pass am next time ( say "A"=5). Dem go add d 5 and 0 together, den divide by 2, so las las na 2.5 u get. Una see y I talk say Naija system just like to wicked person. Francis tell me say, y I think say those Oyibo people commot class. For dem, doing d course second time sef na punishment, and Koko na say u don learn wetin u need know. Dem no dey after who carry first, na make u learn d course. Wen Francis clear me finish, my mouth open, remain small, flies for enter my mouth. For my head, I don dey reason all the questions wen I fail. Chaiiiiii, information na muscle. I swear, I dey control myself as I dey write. I no wan curse all dose UNILAG people on top this post. But, for my mind dem don die finish.
If by chance anybody get levels, we need look our education system again, d Koko for school na to learn, e no make sense to scatter d person grade because e fail am before. Abeg my people make we try dey talk dis message until our leaders get sense and help change things for our education system.
